The manner in which the traveling public migrates from place to place continues to change with the fluctuation of oil prices, environmental awareness, safety and security concerns, as well as amenity desires. This can be evidenced by the increase in walkable communities, addition of bicycle lanes, conversion of former rail corridors into trails, increased availability of intermodal facilities and FAA changes to airports. KHAFRA provides planning and design services for a wide range of airport and transportation situations. Our clients include airports, airlines, transportation agencies, transit authorities, governments and private companies.

South Abbott Road Bridge, Orchard Park, NY
The objective of the project was to develop a replacement bridge based on project needs and current design standards, while maintaining consistency with the abutting roadway segments and future planning. The existing 1920 single span bridge was removed and replaced with a new precast concrete three sided structure supported on pile foundations with piles driven to bedrock. The replacement bridge was built on the existing horizontal alignment and vertical profile. The existing bridge roadway width is insufficient and therefore travel lanes and shoulder widths were increased to provide standard clearances as well as consistency with the approach roadway sections. Standard bridge railing, transition railing, and guide railing provided to improve traffic safety. |
